Blackwood River Valley Drive
Heritage Towns & Rolling Hills
About This Walk
The Blackwood River Valley Tourist Drive is a 113-kilometre scenic route that winds through some of Western Australia's most beautiful countryside, connecting the heritage towns of Balingup, Nannup, Bridgetown, and Boyup Brook. Following the longest continually flowing river in the state, the drive passes through rolling hills, lush farmlands, orchards, and forests of jarrah, marri, and karri.
Each town along the route has its own character: Balingup welcomes visitors with friendly scarecrows and features the Golden Valley Tree Park; Nannup is a hub for trails with artisan cafes and the famous Old Cheese Factory (actually WA's largest arts and craft centre); Bridgetown offers heritage buildings and riverside dining; and Boyup Brook is home to Harvey Dickson's Country Music Centre.
The drive is spectacular at any time of year but particularly beautiful in spring when wildflowers blanket the hillsides and the region's many gardens are in full bloom. Allow plenty of time for stops β there are galleries, cellar doors, walking trails, and river access points along the way.
