Nannup to Bridgetown Paddle
A Classic Blackwood River Journey
About This Walk
The paddle from Nannup to Bridgetown (or reverse) is one of the classic multi-day canoe journeys in Western Australia. Following the Blackwood River through tranquil bushland, farmland, and towering forest, the approximately 55-kilometre route can be comfortably completed over two to three days with overnight camping along the banks.
The river passes through alternating sections of calm pools, gentle bends, and — during winter and spring — some exciting rapids that add variety to the journey. Wildlife is abundant: watch for kangaroos and waterbirds along the banks, and listen for the call of black cockatoos overhead. Camping spots are available at several access points along the way.
Plan your trip carefully, as weather conditions significantly impact water levels. The downstream direction (Nannup to Bridgetown) offers a slightly easier paddle with the current. Public access points at Wrights Bridge, Maranup Bridge, and Rocky Bluff allow you to break the journey into shorter sections if preferred.
