Blackwood River Walk
Riverside Serenity in Bridgetown
About This Walk
The Blackwood River Walk is a beautiful, accessible trail that meanders along the banks of the Blackwood River in the heart of Bridgetown. Starting at Blackwood River Park near the main traffic bridge, the path follows the river through serene pools, gentle rapids, and native bushland.
The trail passes under striking metal Black Cockatoo sculptures and offers excellent birdwatching opportunities — look for Pacific Black Ducks, Eurasian Coots, and Mallard Ducks on the water. The riverside vegetation includes Bracken Ferns, Acacias, Zamias, and purple Hovea, creating a lush green corridor even in summer.
During late winter and spring, the valley is particularly stunning, often shrouded in morning mist with sunlight illuminating mossy logs and lush green pastures. The walk can be extended up to 12km by incorporating sections through the Bridgetown streets and heritage precinct. Dogs are welcome on leads.
